Thinking about investing in two kessil tuna blue 160we and controller for my 65 gallon tank. Tank is 36x18x 24tall. I want to keep zoas and softies, not really sure what else being new to all this. I like shimmer and shadows. I like efficiency.

Setup is sumpless 65g
tunze 9012dc skimmer
tunze 3163 filter
few wavemakers that will be upgraded when I feel necessary
100lbs dry rock
shallow sand bed

Good investment?

Ive got 3 and a controller ill sell you and ship it to your door for free. I used them right at 6 months and shut the tank down. I bought them last Oct. $600 bucks! You could use the 3rd for a frag tank or really for a back up. Never hurts to have extra...

Looks like a good setup you have figured out. High end, but do it all right the first time and your tank wont nickel and dime you all the time trying to play catch up. Id recommend ehiem jager heaters for reliability and as far as kessils....i loved em so much i put 360's on the new build I did. Love that shimmer!

I have one goose neck i used for the sump ill throw in. I hung mine pendulum style. I liked the look better. Elbow bracket for each and a piece of threaded rod is all i did.

I have 2 kessil 160 tuna blues with controller over my 60 gallon with soft corals. they work great! Tank is 24 inches deep and i have good light penetration and the corals that sit at the bottom have all sprouted new growth... ive had the lights about 3 weeks

The Kessil 160 will work OK on a 24" tall tank. I'm running a pair of them over a 120XH. They will grow softies fine, and LPS. Not really enough light for SPS though. SPS will grow, though slowly and with the spindly growth symptomatic of insufficient light levels.

Nice set up! I love Tunze Comline equipment. No sump. No leaks. No losses. Just stick them in a corner and you are skimming and filtering. That's a lot of skimmer for that tank. Definitely feed like crazy if you do LPS and soft corals. As far as the lights go two 160s will work great for what you want to do. I like shimmer and shadows too! Good luck :)

Good to hear! Thanks! Almost bought the smaller skimmer but it was on the cusp of being too small if I went SPS.

The local guy that had the 160 for sale sold it... so here I am.
