Hey guys!

after a rather long time without any updates or anything from my side i am back... sort of :lolspin:

so what happened to the Drop-off tank... well me and my gf bought a new home, bigger better, but without the right place for a drop-off tank... so i had to tear it down... all the living animals are on vacation at a friends place

i am still trying to sell the tank but so far no luck with that

however the new tank is coming along slowly... just ordered the glas and build the new stand

the new tank is going to be 120cm long, 85cm wide and 65cm high so something around 600 liters, a bit more then the last tank.

this were the first visualizations...

i am going to use most of my equipment only the gyre will be sold since i got two additional Vortech MP40 QD :D

will build a manifold in the sump area to power my UV, Chaeto reactor and some other filters. I am also planning on using Atemkalk for the skimmer. Some friends of mine are using that and you really can tell the difference.

yesterday i got the stand:
http://i774.photobucket.com/albums/yy27/flofromaustria/Becken%20Brunn/IMG_2969_zpszyusgoxr.jpg (http://s774.photobucket.com/user/flofromaustria/media/Becken%20Brunn/IMG_2969_zpszyusgoxr.jpg.html)

and after a cleaning session everything looks like new:
http://i774.photobucket.com/albums/yy27/flofromaustria/Becken%20Brunn/IMG_2965_zps0esw2nba.jpg (http://s774.photobucket.com/user/flofromaustria/media/Becken%20Brunn/IMG_2965_zps0esw2nba.jpg.html)

so the roadmap for the next few weeks:

figure the new aquascape out
pluming
waiting for the glass to arrive
getting the room ready and as far waterproof as possible
find the money to buy the lights :D

so that´s it from me for now!

hope this tank will get as good as i hope!

cheers

thanks! i can´t wait too! but i am happy that i can take my time and do everything without haste... the last few tanks all had to be build up pretty fast and so i made some mistakes... not now i hope ^^

Looking good Flo! The aluminum stand is a game changer- I'll never do a wood stand again. I would suggest lining the top and insides with sheets of HDPE, then you can clean up anything, even spilled glue with a wet paper towel.

The section named 'return and filters' that sticks out past the display, I can only assume it's for mangroves..

the idea with HDPE sheets is great, have to check out where i can buy something like that here. thanks

this section is for zeolite filters and my Chaeto reactor and for my vectra.
the only reason it sticks out past the display is because i have the room for it and the more liters the better and the return line can go straight to the top.
so no mangroves here ^^

I know you're in a different continent and all, but start with Amazon and e-bay. The sheets were not expensive. Also, consider hanging your side panels using Z-brackets- it's so nice to be able to just pull off the side panel all at once and have full access. Check out the details in my thread.

Hi Flo,

Looking at your plans and since you ask for feedback, here it goes...
It seems that you'll be facing challenges when trying to fill the dosing and RODI compartments. Also 10 liters for dosing I think it's excessive. You could do with 5 liters pretty well and gain space on top.
As per he sump I would go with a U shape (Hugo style) since you'll use better the space and also gain a low flow area good to place matrix/siporax or similar stuff.
The electrical stuff separated its a very good move.

Just my opinion...

hey mate!
thanks for the input, really appreciate it!
filling the RODI compartment won´t be a problem, i´m going to cut a big hole in the plate above it and so i can fill it easily (i hope)
yes 10l are a lot but i am not sure about that, maybe 5 liters will do too but i checked some out online and they would fit
as for the sump layout i think it´s too late it´s already ordered but if it doesn't work the way i like i can still change it by myself
cheers and thanks again

Listen Flo, if your progress slows down any more you'll be going backwards in time mate :hmm4:

Why can't you fill the tank to below the overflow and get things cycling now Flo ? Yodeling commitments etc will not be an acceptable excuse so rather than drawing pics how about you get a bucket of salt water and tip it in the tank.......... and then repeat until almost full........... :)

It's no wonder Vienna was voted the laziest capitol in a recent EU survey :reading:

Hahaha thank you master biggles

Man I have too take my time and find more money to burn on the tank :lolspin:

A good setup needs time and here I can't go into any store and get me all the pvc pipes I need... here I have to order stuff online and wait till those Germans deliver... it's a mess

So without going backwards in time I will start or finish this project soon

Then enough time for cycling and then back to acros :D

CheersVery true.
I believe it can be even cheaper, to go to Germany ourselves to pick up the stuff we need instead of spending more on shipping.
Our budgets gets lost with some shipping rates.
But all the way... it looks very clean Florian.
Any LED decision yet? Anything less than Radion G4 or AI Hydra will not suffice. [emoji12]

Waiting for your Philips review. I'm would like to change lights but I'm still not convinced of the value for money for the high end lights. I have 120cm tank and 2 Ocean revive cost less than 1 Radion, Hydra, ... and I'll need 2 of that.

This stand is perfect, way better than any other material I had. I only recommend to buy the elements cut by a pro. Mine were cut by the company a bought them and I would have never got them that straight myself. And they must be completely level or the build is already doomed ;-)

So today I got my shipment with my rocks

Those are made by a German company called Atoll Riffdeko

Nothing taken from our reefs for the production of those stones

I really like the minimalistic look of the scape. I see so many places for corals and so many ways how the fish can swim through it all

What do you guys think of it?

Cheers

I love it Flo :inlove:

Only thing I'll do is put some eggcrate under the scape to lift it a bit so that the sand doesn't burry it all again

Sand is going to be Aqua medic 2-5mm

The controller is very simple and can be made wifi accessible
The software is simple too, no single color Chanel change just the ratio between white and blue.
That i like very much.
All the options I had when I used the Ecotech Radion was a bit too much for me. Always wondering if I'm running the right colors for my corals...

In fact this design was criticized by many... saying the light can only be used inside canopies... i will hide them too and yes they are way bigger then radion but I do like the design

The retail price is 750€ and 70€ for the controller who is able to control up to 4 lights
But the street price is lower, I got mine for around 680€, so cheaper then the radion and pro

The Philips Coral Care are great lights that are frequently used in EU.
They have great reviews for LPS and SPS.
Florian, you made a great choice.

Online you can get these lights (tax free) for about EUR 550.
Add shipping and possible import duties and you are still cheaper than the newest Radions.

also I have to wait for the paneling (don't know if this is the right word) for the sand and the canopy

So you mean putting the rocks on the sand?
The egg crate is only right under the founding rocks so the rest of the sand is "free"

Looking great Florian, but I agree with Discusheckel.
I am not sure if your rock is in his final position, but moving it a little forward will not only improve the flow (although you have a MP40 in that corner) it will also bring the rock more under the LED ficture and will allow the corals to grow more 360 degrees. Here assuming you position the LED in the middle of the tank.

very nice tank, I saw a few tanks wich are running with the the Coral Care LED, most of them are looking good. You know I almost buy 2 MP40 last year because I've read fantastic things about it and I also like not having cables inside the tank. But the week I was placing the order I start reading lots of posts about rust problems and tanks issues because of that.

Hey mate!

Yes I think about it but I never head any of those problems and I've been using this pumps since they were available here in Austria
I don't know if this pump can even rust on the wet side since there is only plastic and the ceramic axel and the rotor but I will keep those problems in mind

On the other hand a magnet of a tunze of a friend of mine also had a problem with rust and killed nearly all of his stock... so u aren't safe anywhere... but I think keeping an eye on this matter is important
Normally I do monthly checks when I clean the pumps

Looks great Florian.
The lights have a nice spead.

I am not sure if you wanted to keep the tank rimless or with canopy, but a rail with a hanging kit with look nice and clean.

Hi Flo,
Do you think I could go with just 1 Coral Care unit?
Tank is 120cmx60x55.
I would like to try those lights but the price for 2 units it's very high for a test...

Hey!
Depends on the placement of the corals. If the most light hungry corals are near to the lamp it could work!
But Philips says 80x80cm is the area the lamp could fill

If I place 2 I'll get lots of light outside the tank.
When you had only 1 light did you notice those 80cm fill limit?

There was definitely more shadows on the far side of the lamp... but I really didn't test that... sry

Looks good flo! That baby mp10 at the bottom was a good choice too. Personally, I love the scape, one of the best I've seen for my taste, no joke.

Congrats on the new tech
I am a big fan of the shallow lagoon mode i think is the name!!

Enjoy the pump and let me know what you think of it
But keep in mind those pumps need some time to get completely silent
