Hey guys,

Planning on getting a fighting conch and I've heard :reading: they fight with each other right? So only one per 90 gal reef tank

Lol got lots of algae. I'm putting in a CC and GFO so I 'm kinda worried the gfo will take away food from the CC.

I have 2 strawberry conch in my 90, just keep them well fed with nori and algae wafers if you are concerned

I have had 4 in my 72x24 tank for 4 years. They don't bother anything including each other unless you count bumping in to any frags sitting on the sand bed.

Just added one starberry conch today with 30 snails. Hoping they all do well.

I have two tigers in a 100 gallon. Always well fed.

Well he's just chewing away at the green algae on the sand. So I'm loving him!

Mine don't harm each other but they mate frequently, never seen any eggs though

How do they breed? With eggs?

According to Reef Cleaners "The word "fighting" doesn't refer to its temperament, but rather the notch on the front of their shell which resembles a gladiator's helmet." They are listed as peaceful at Live Aquaria.

Lol awesome. They do have a knife or something in there shell, but it's for shell defense. Thanks for the info!

One follows the other around piggybacking for a day or so at a time, it has an appendage that it slips under the others shell. Not sure if they are hermaphroditic or not but its always the smaller of my 2 that appears to be the male. I've never seen any eggs but I believe they attach ribbons to hard substrates from what I can gather through google. They aren't mating at the mo but I'll get a pic if they start again.

They do this for days! I'm hoping one day they will deposit some eggs, I'm sure any larvae would be skimmed or eaten but would be cool to get some conch babys.

Nice picture! That would be cool to get baby conchs! I only have one in my 90 gal tank and it mows through everything in the algae! I was considering a second one, but don't want it to starve.

Thanks, I'm always paranoid about them running out of food as my tanks a 90 too and I have 2 greedy tuxedo urchins. I drop algae wafers in a few times a week and also rubber band nori to a rock twice a week for them all, the urchins spawn too so I figure they must all be eating enough
