I bought a Duncan coral with 3 heads a few months ago. It has grown 3 more heads. The main trunk and the 3 original heads don't appear to have grown longer/higher at all. Is this normal?

Growth is exponential. It doesn't do much at first. Then heads start to split. Before you know it, you have a softball size colony in 12 to 24 months from just a couple heads.

I went from a single to at least seven when I got rid of it last week. They multiply like rabbits.

I thought the main trunk would grow taller as well.

Not really. They all grow different. Your experience is typical tho. I had 1 polyp years ago. It took probably 6 months to split. After 2 years, I had about 40 heads.

Mine started as 2 heads, little over 2 years now and it's just a little bigger then a softball.

I started with 3 heads and I currently have 20+ heads on mine and about the size of a softball. I too thought they would grow with a trunk.

Started with 4 heads, probably have 20-25 heads now. but like others its all coming from the one main stalk. 4 head frag was purchased 8 months ago.
