Hi guys. I bought this Crosshatch trigger about 2-3 weeks ago. It's in QT with some tangs and others.. Lately I've noticed some white spot on its fin and it's getting worse. Growing more in number. When i bought it, I saw 2 spots. Not ich. They are big. ~3-4mm size. flakey looking. some see through. looks like one spot is peeling off the top of the fin. Now there's a few more spots. Only on the fin. possibly tail. No where on the body.

I dipped the fish in Formalin after purchase for 30min. I've been feeding in a holding tank now, preparing it for TTM and Prazipro. Fish eats a ton of frozen food and pellets. Very healthy and bosses the QT around.

Is this something I need to take her out and treat alone? if so what can I use? thanks!

This is when I first bought the fish. notice a little blur that looks like it wants to peel off the fin. It's still there today.

I have most medication on hand except Copper based ones. I'm not a fan of treating with Copper. I'd prefer if there's any none copper treatment first. thanks

Kinda looks like flukes.

Did you use the proper dosage of formalin? Were all the other fish treated for flukes as well?

Beautiful fish by the way.

thank you!

all the fish have gone through Formalin before going into this tank. 10ml per 10gal. However I did dose the medicine for 1-2 hours before putting the fish in, one time.

Shall I dip them all in Formalin again? the other fish too?

3 yellow tang
1 convict tang
1 mandarin
1 yellow box fish
2 yellow corris wrasse
3 firefish

What kind of container did you use to administer the bath? Plastic can absorb some of the formalin making it not therapeutic. Just a thought.

I personally am not a fan of formalin. If you're other fish are showing no signs, can you catch him and do a fw dip? That will definitely tell you if it's flukes.

yes I can catch him in seconds. I'll administer a FW dip.

I dipped the fish for 5min. doens't seem anything came off. The major spots are still there.

fish is freaking out in QT now hiding. so I'll let it settle down for a bit before I can observe.

this is end of 5 min dip. the blur spot on the fin is still there

Ok, did anything come off in the dip? Do you think it is a bite mark what you see?

In the picture it does look better though.

Ok. the fish came out to eat so I was able to take a better look.

there was 1 piece of white flake that came off during FW dip. just 1. I remember seeing a blurry white piece floating around.

the top fin does seem to be better. I don't see as many of the spots anymore, but the big 2 original spots are still there.

There are a few extra flakes this morning. looks like they are coming off. 1 is clearly hanging on its body. It was not there yesterday. A few more on the little fin near the top of the eye. Those spots were not there. It seems to be flakey. or flaking off soon.

Shall I assume this is Flukes and PraziPro? I can Prazi this whole 100gal all together.

I would say it was flukes and treat with prazi. I hope this clears things up for you. Best of luck.

thanks for the help. I will monitor a few days of eating and Prazi this whole tank.
