While at my LFS this weekend I grabbed a few flat pieces of live rock to turn into isolation isolation islands for certain corals in the DP.
The rocks are in QT at the moment and I noticed some little encrusting purple polyps on the rock.
Looks to be encrusting/carpeting like zoa but has a different structure. Doesn't look like xenia either.
Some type of clove polyp perhaps? The heads are maybe 3/16in in diameter at best.

Kill it with fire.
Unless you want every surface covered in beautiful bright blue clove polyps.
Google Images for blue clove polyps.
They are absolutely beautiful.
Then Google eradicating blue clove polyps.
;- )
I wanted some for our tank.
The most interesting post stated that they are the dominant feature in your tank after 6 months.
Currently our dominant feature is a tank full of purple coralline algae.
Don't want to give that up just yet.

Yup, thats it 'Blue Clove Polyp'
Thanks for the heads up everyone. We have a LMBlenny and Seahare which need LR to graze on, allowing the Blue Clove Polyp would be a death sentence for them.
I'll need to...figure out if I should just pitch the rock or remove the clove.
The rock was perfect for the trumpet coral.

Those polyps look a little too bulky to be the dreaded BCP IMO. Can you scrape that encrusting tissue off the rocks with your finger nail? FWIW here's a picture of some BCP I had in my tank just for comparison.

Bit of an update. I didn't get around to eradicating the polyps since we bought a house and just last night moved the entire system into a larger tank.
So this coral is still alive and sitting in my new QT bucket! Before taring down the QT tank I snapped this photo, the coral has changed up a bit and doesn't seem to fit the Blue Clove bill now.
Kind of looks like xenia....any takers?
