i came into a bunch of surplus Whetstone. i am curious if it could be used as a alternative to liverock in the sump, like the ceramic MarinePure.
the whole point of the Whetstone is to soak in oil for you to then sharpen your knives. so.. soak in my water and break down the ammonia and nitrates..
then i wonder about pumas stone..
thoughts?

natural?
synthetic?
aluminum oxide?
silicone carbide?
quartz?
etc...
Not only could the material be a problem but I do not believe that sharpening stone is porous/open (high surface area) enough to be beneficial
