In my opinion this is the hardest part of setting up a reef tank.

i am not sure but i suspect it will not hold water..

Honestly the first one looks best but without seeing it in the tank its hard. Also depends on the size of planned fish i do not see many places for them to hide

Haha

It's actually the same scape but from all three sides. I'll also add more crevices for hiding spaces once I actually start attaching the rock via acrylic rods and glue.

Tank is 515 gallon almost cube. 72"L x 69"W x 24"T SPS dominant with fish of all sizes including atleast one large show fish.

It's hard to tell how the scape will look with it being on the ground. Once in the tank you will get a much better visual and prob move stuff around. That being said I like both, the first with it being separate rock sections, and the second with having the points on all ends. My suggestion would be to maybe make some hang overs or more ledges.

I'll start a build tread once the tank is delivered next month.

My wife thinks I'm crazy because I keep laying on the ground to get the view of it being at eye level. I plan on making ledges and some more caves once I start putting it all together with acrylic rods and glue.

It won't show me which one you linked to. What post number?

I like the size and shape of that tank. Setting up the scape to take advantage of the great depth...the scape feels right.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who has a wife thinking I'm crazy... Haha. I'd be laying on the ground to get the view too! Really looking forward to following your build thread man and am excited for you!

+1 for this... I'd maybe drag the 'tail' of the larger formation out with a couple of sand breaks and individual rock pieces at the end and perhaps build the bigger end up a little higher vs the smaller formation. I'd also make sure I had as much room between the rock and the tank sides as I do between the two rock formations, helps to make it look balanced.

Sure beats the old school rock wall like mine!!

You're both clearly far more considerate than me, I'd have taken over the dining table for at least a week [emoji6]

Avoid symmetry, have plenty of sand space and keep in mind that as corals grow too much rock becomes a problem.

I like the second try better. Though maybe add some more height to one or two of the rock formations. Can't tell from the pictures, but they don't seem very tall.

Looks good, maybe add a couple of joining arches?

I'd maybe go a tad higher in the group at the back wall and leave a little more open space in front. But that's me and I'm not laying on the floor for perspective. What worried me though was with my wife and all the crap she uses to clean our floors I wouldn't want my rock sitting on it! LOL. good luck with your build man.

My wife thinks I'm crazy cuz I'm months away from my build and I'm talking about it every day, visiting LFS's, etc. Your rock plan looks great...

I prefer the scape in post #5. Not to sound critical, but they both sort of look like piles of rocks. I don't like dead spots so I am not a huge fan of scapes that are only piles of rock or even worse, a wall of rocks. What will the focus of the tank be? Fish, sps, softies? Once corals start to grow, the tank may look a bit "packed".
