New RedSea reefer 170 coming.. return pump?

I have just pulled the tigger on a new system. I have had the same tank for 15 years (seriously). I'm excited for the change.

I have run a low flow return pump for a long time. I use an eheim 1250 on my current 55. With that in mind, what small return do you recommend? I could use my 1250, an eheim 1048 (which I own) or I could buy something new.
I don't want to debate low vs. high flow so please consider low flow a given.


Priorities:
- quiet....like super duper quiet
- quality, reliability

Edit - I consider low flow about 4-8 times per hour display tank volume turnover. Not scientific but it works out to 130-270 per hour.

You could try the Reef Octopus VarioS-2 Controllable DC Circulation Pump. I know at it max setting is to strong for what you want, but if you use the lowest setting it could get you the amount of water movement you want. Plus it would be quiet.

I would just go with a sicce syncra or a tunze silence

I would likely do an Eheim Compact 1000. I would say Tunze 1073.008 but it's probably a little too small unless you only have like 3' of head pressure. Your 1250 would likely work as well but the others will use a fair bit less power and probably pay for themselves after a few months.

Really? Ugh. Not good. Was thinking of sicce 1.5 but silence is key.

Watts. Amazing pump seems to last forever. Not totally silent though.

These pumps are small enough I wouldn't be all that concerned about noise if you are using a quality brand. Something like the fan from your lights will likely be louder.

One guys oppinion shouldn't sway you. I have had nothing but good results with sicce. I have owned multiple syncra pumps and had no issues with performance or noise

I totally understand. I am way more serious about quiet than any reefer I know. I have gone to silly lengths to Eliminate noise. My eheim 1250 is boarderline, so I search for quieter. 1250 is quiet enough for nearly everyone else. We all have our qwerks.

I have read that the sicce pump will get more quiet after it has ran for a while, but we will see. (mine is only ran for about a month). I was also using a dc pump on my other tank.

I was using a Tunze silence pump on my ResSea 170 and it definitely wasn't silent. I changed out to the Eheim Compact 2000 and it's MUCH quieter.
