I'm currently in the market to get a 20 gallon tank for a new setup. I'm moving to a new apartment and my corals and fish are currently being housed at work. I can't keep them there long term, but I'm terrified of a tank breaking on me and flooding my 3rd floor apartment and leaving me on the hook for the repairs.

So, I'm looking for brand suggestions, but also warnings of tanks/brands that are notorious for breakage. Thanks.

I believe the petco dollar per gallon sale is on right now. Many people buy these tanks with no problems. Just make sure to check the silicone before you buy

I really like my cadlights 18 gallon mini if you want an all in one. If you want a setup with a sump I would look at Red Sea or waterbox

I just bought an Innovative Marine 25 gallon. I haven't done anything but leak test it, but it looks fantastic so far.

I've had a dollar per gallon 20 long as my first tank. I really liked the demensions of that tank, can't be beat for 20$.
I have a innovative marine lagoon 25 now, and it is well worth the money if you're into simplicity/ all in one thing.

Any thoughts on tanks/manufacturers to avoid with a history of breakage?

Any tank with a seam, just test in your bathtub. You'll want to clean it out before using anyway.
Get flood insurance? ;)

Tanks can break, but mostly they don't. There's no data, one way or the other; just anecdotal reports from hobbyists that are of no predictive value. Just make sure the stand is robust, flat and level.

What's your budget? I have a Red Sea Reefer Nano 21gal main 7gal sump. Comes as a full setup low iron glass etc. I'm very happy with it, worth every penny IMO.

I went with the IM Nuvo 20 in the end. I had been eyeing it earlier.

i have the petco 20 and have had zero issues. awesome deal. it actually helped get me into the hobby... enticing me with a wicked good deal...then i quickly realized the glass is the cheapest part and there would be much more spending around the corner
