Hi guys,

I have a 4ft tank with 2x WP 25's and 1 x RW 8 and Zetlight ZT 6600.

I started the tank out with frags and after a few months I lost all of it including montis, I boiled it down to a swing in alk as I was dosing kalk only at the time and experimenting with the correct amount. I also dropped my phos very rapidly which I think was the final nail. The tank was only a month old at the time.

I am finally at max saturated kalk so haven't been fiddling with the tank too much and my lps seemed to be doing fine for a while but perish after a few months with the exception of a bubble coral and a clam, softies seem fine.

My levels have been rock solid with with alk at 7.3 and calcium at 460, mag is always 1380 odd. Infact I am now auto dosing 8ml of RHF alk to keep it at 7.3 ish.

I did have a nitrate issue as well but its now under control at about 5 and phos usually around 0.6 - 0.8. I assumed the sps will brown out with these levels but not die and will tweak phos as they grow.

I am fairly new to sps so require some solid direction to troubleshoot and try again. I must admit after my failed attempt i did get quite behind with wc.

As per the title could this be flow or lighting related or is my husbandry really lacking.

If you don't have any sps, how are you at maximum saturation for kalk? Just wondering how you're dosing as well. What test kits are you using?

I graduated from 2tsp to 10tsp in 5gal over a period of about 8 months. I used salifert for alk, mag and calcium, nitrate and a hanna 736 ulr for phos. My ato is 10 gal and i top off about 4 gal a week. I currently add 10 tsp of kalk to my new top off water weekly.

Kalk was added to a 5gal bucket, mixed and allowed to settle overnight and added to my ato. My corraline really picked up and i assume thats wer its all going.

The 8mls of RHF alk is dosed once daily with a doser.

I have checked for precipitation and dont see any. Just prior to adding the doser online my alk would drop to 7 over a week hence the 8ml RHF Alk solution being added.

I have never dosed calcium independently as the kalk kept it in the 460 range always.

Im am currently trying to do monthly water changes with nsw to see if i cn resolve this issue so i know water quality isnt an issue.
