Any reason I can't use exacto knife in tank? I have a rock that I want to frag GSP off of, and it doesn't just peel off like I planned on. I need to get under it.
Atleasty galaxea had the sweepers out today trying to help me.

Be careful of any little pieces that you cut off that they do not float away, they can regrow elsewhere in your tank.

Or give it to someone you hate lol
yeah, i've fallen for GSPs too from the way they sway in the current. I've got 2 island rocks just for GSPs, hopefully they don't detach or i'll be one sad reefer

Best way to have gsp is place it on its own rock at the peak of the given rock. GSP like Xenia grows best up toward the light and not so well if it has no upward mobility. I also keep flow at near hurricane levels so it can't mat out over the sand bed. Finally surround the base of the rock island with an aggressive coral. I personally use acans as they are just aggressive enough to keep it at bay without nuking the whole gsp colony. This technique has kept it isolated and beautifully swaying in my tanks for years.

I thought my galaxea would do work holding it back . It is a small piece. Slower grower but I like it

That patch is in a 17 gallon tank surrounded by acans on one side favia on the other. The tank has a ton of flow 80x+ turnover via an ac110 and an mp10 running at 80%. GSP hasn't grown in months.
