Bag of macro algae smell

Hi all,

I have had a bag of macro algae that was given to me but I didn't have a refugium do it sat in the bag for a weekish in the sump.

I finally made one but when I opened the bag it smells like rotten eggs.there is a bunch of dead brissle worms at the bottom of the bag so I'm guessing that is causing the rotting smell.

Am I able to bust wash the algae off in the sink then add it in? Or should I get a new bag of it.

I would give it a good rinse in a strainer first, then add. Just keep an eye on it, if it looks like it is starting to die, toss it.

I used coral RX and dipped the macro I got. A bunch of worms came out. Not sure they where bad.

The macro's should be fine, just keep an eye out if they start to go clear and dissolve.
