The answer is yes.. (once fully cured)

Type 2 also works BUT.. (big but) it takes much longer to be fully cured..
All 100% silicone is safe to use once fully cured...

Do not simply follow the directions for curing time on the package either as most people use thicker than recommended "globs" and the thicker/bigger the blob the longer the cure time..

I always wait at least a week for the silicone to fully cure.

I am not in a big hurry and this will just be for top off initially. No water in the main tank until at least Friday, top off not until next week. Still need to DIY the ATO System.

Hold onto that if its a newer version even though it boasts 100%, its not. Theres several write ups on this. Read the back label, wven some of the 100% now have a mildecide in them which is not safe even after cured. Picture of back label and ill tell you if i see it

Because I have never reliably been able to determine whether any of these silicones actually contain mildewcide (as opposed to GE2 just being inherently mildew resistant because it's a neutral cure silicone) I pay the premium and use either the Aqueon or Marineland stuff. It may simply be rebadged GE, dunno, but I like to avoid being 'penny wise, pound foolish'.

No..

There are 2 types of silicone..
acetoxy cure (vinegar smell) and neutral cure (ammonia smell)..
GEI is acetoxy and GE2 is neutral cure..
Neutral cure is naturally more mold resistant than the other type.. It does not contain a mildewcide at all it just is more resistant..
The marketing department at GE has simply added words about mildew "resistant" to GE2 to help sell the product and to guide people in applications where that might be beneficial..

Both GE1 and GE2 are safe once fully cured..

All the "myths" in this hobby are because people used and didn't allow the neutral cure silicone to fully cure and as its curing it releases toxic ammonia.. We all know ammonia is toxic to marine life..

I just used neutral cure in my new tank for all my sump baffles.. I let it fully cure.. All tank inhabitants are just fine..
