ATI Sunpower Sizing on 120 gallon tank

I'm starting a new 120 gallon system with 48" x 24" x 24" dimensions. I plan on making this an SPS dominant tank. I have a few questions:

1. Should I go with 6 or 8 bulbs? I have 2 Kessil 360's I plan on using for supplemental lighting & shimmer.

2. Should I go with a 48" or 36" fixture? I'd like some room to get into the tank and have the Kessils, so I'm leaning towards 36".

3. What bulb combo?

What would you all recommend?

Get the 6 bulb. Use a combo of blue + and coral + like 4 blue + and 2 coral +


That's best par and growth. Keep it around 8" off the water and the fan on 6 to 8 depending on your noise tolerance and ambient temperature.

Screw the Kessils and get some led strips I forget the brand that retros right onto the ati fixture. Get the 48" hands down.

If you have time and a little spare cash I would contact Dave at nanoboxreef.com and have him hybrid 6 led pucks into the sun power fixture. You will be able to grow anything you want in that tank with no shade, tons of shimmer, and all the controllability you could ever want.

Oh and btw if he hybrids 6 pucks into that light you loose 2 bulbs in which case get 6 pucks 2 arrays and use all blue +, you can adjust what ever spectrum you want by using the leds from the nanobox pucks.

Nope. Dave doesn't use any optics on the leds. This allows them to mix seamlessly and avoid any disco balls or color isolation. The appearance over my tank is a great blanket of light with minimal shadows. With my light up that high I'm still growing LPS and stuff on the sand bed. The intensities are way down on each Channel.

Each LED puck consumes max 33 watts and covers an area of around 24x24 but in order for uniform coverage I'd recommend 2 per 24".

Here is my light with the leds lowering. These are just LED's I have. It started using t5 yet.

Growing in the sand bed my lights are well over 9" off the waterline lol.

Yeah, Dave does some awesome work for sure. I have a couple of his pucks retrofitted into my Biocube hood. His ATI retros and custom color anodizing of the Sunpower body is top notch IMO.

I think with a 8x54 watt fixture, you can be sure you will have light for anything you want practically anywhere in the tank. 6 bulb you will be good on the top half of the tank for SPS, but the light may be a little lower on the bottom.

For that tank size, you need 4' 8 bulbs Sunpower.
I had a 6 bulbs on the same tank, didn't really work out so I had to buy another 8 bulbs fixture.
