It's been fifteen years since I had my last reef. I decided I wanted to build an in wall in my bedroom without cutting corners that led to the downfall of my last tank.

So I took over the spare closet and opened up the wall in my master bedroom.

Painted the closet. Put in a vent to keep the walls dry (hopefully), and wired/plumbed the hall closet for access.

Ready to cycle and clean up the bedroom wall to frame it in.

Looks like you are off to a good start. I am so jealous. I would do this if the layout of our place was different. Out of curiosity, do you have two closets in that room or is it a closet from a room next to it?

Thanks, yeah its the spare room closet so there's still a master bedroom closet next to it that's usable. It's a 90 year old house so the closets are small. I made some built-in armoires to add space... although now there's no closet space for the guest bedroom.

Got the sump going last night. Fixed all my leaks (just a couple minor floods, I guess that's about par for a new setup) -- both bulkheads needed tightening; forgot to glue 2 fittings; and had to readjust/tighten about 2 or 3 unions. The dog seems to like it so far...

Got my LX7s going. Rigged some DIY mounts with some hardwood maple, M4 screws, chains and hooks.

Added a bottle of Dr. Tim's and a shrimp. I'm guessing I'll turn on my skimmer and GFO/Carbon this weekend once I start to see some nitrites.

Almost done framing it in. Trying to build hidden access panels today that I can unlock from behind.

Looking good! I want to do this one day. Let us know if you run into anything you wish you had done different or other things to consider with an in-wall tank.

Thanks, will do, fortunately I don't have too many regrets. The thing I'm most glad I did was build hose connections in the side closet for water changes, which is my favorite part of the setup.

The only thing so far I'd do differently is change the vent fan I'd setup in the ceiling. I'd hardwired it in but I don't really think I'll need it that often so I'd like to have the controller turn it on when the tank gets hot. But that should be easy enough to fix.

Thought I'd post an update. Got the electronics set up, the wall paneled and added some livestock. Just need to paint...
