I'm worried that a heater won't fit into my upcoming reefer 170's sump. I'm looking into an Eheim 125 watt, but not sure if the length will allow it to be fully submerged.

I know the length of the compartment is ~11.5", and the Eheim 125watt is about 12.5". The water level should be about 8" high right? Doing some geometry, I should have plenty of space but just wanted to make sure.

For those who run a Reefer 170, what's the longest heater I can use?

I use the 75W Eheim JAGER Aquarium Heater its about 10" and fits great.

Only 75watt? I guess if you don't need to really raise the temp that much.

Can you measure if I can fully submerge something around 13.5"?

If you angle the heater across the front w/ about 9" inches of water height in the sump you should be ok.

yeah, even if water height is 8" in the skimmer chamber, I'll have about 14.25" of space. Good enough!

Thanks.

Thank you!! Can't wait. It's still being delivered (it's been two weeks, :headwallblue:) but all my other equipment is ready to go.

I have a 125w eheim heater in my 170 and it fits along the baffle side of the sump. It's in there diagonally and just he knob to adjust sticks out.

Hey Mike,

Thanks so much! You're a huge help, especially on all the Reefer 170 threads I've been looking at lately ;)
