View Full Version : My Dream Tank 10x2x2

Well its about time i share my tank , been running around 4 months now , the tank was in the house cycling before i even had the keys lol

Finally build my own home which gave me the freedom to get the tank i have been thinking about all my life .. it was not without its issues i had a 5ft tank that i sold all my SPS and corals from 6 months prior to the house construction and just kept my fish i wanted to start over with rock and coral and i was living in a mates lounge during both builds so i knew i would have the focus on my corals so moved them onto others in my area :)

When i was moving the 5ft to the new house i cracked it and my fish had to live in my sump for a few weeks whilst the cycle finished lucky at that time i only had 2 chromis , 1 sailfin and 1 yellow and blue tang.

I had the standard new tank blues with some cyano and brown algaes during the first 8 weeks .. i did a blackout and large water changes and that is under control now.

I did recieve alot of flak on our facebook australia group for the stand people were 50/50 on its hold strength but it hasnt moved in the time its been setup and the builder assures me its safe and i trust them.

I cant wait for everything to grow out and in about 5 months i will look to start on my SPS again

Looks good so far.
As for the stand is the square tubing wall thickness 6mm or greater.?
If so you will be fine.

Time to change your signature with the updates. <just saying.

For flow at the moment is 2 mo40w and I have 2 sicce voyager plus 2 jaebo rw8 gonna throw in a gyre soon as well

The lights units are the ati hybrid 8x34w with led clusters they are gonna be hung from roof in the next few weeks when new sump comes online

It's a great size I wants to go 10x3x3 but wife thought it might intrude into the lounge to much

Lots to do but we are getting there

Looking great!! Given that it's a 10 foot tank, why didn't you choose the 4' (8x54w) ATI Hybrid fixtures? Two of the 8x39w (3 foot) versions leave a lot of dead space.

Can we see some more pics of the sump/plumbing layout?

Thanks MarylandTang :) I had one of the units already over my 5ft before the upgrade and had the option to grab another at a decent price so i did :) i do plan on hanging the units from the ceiling soon at the correct height from the tank and im hoping this will increase the area of coverage , i then may get some supplemental lights but most the islands are covered

Update of sorts , i decided in my wisdom during a water change to shutdown the return pump and not close off the valve on the return line :) I was out the front sorting out the pump for new water and mates kid comes running out shouting daddy water ... put about 300 litres on the floor .... good lesson to learn have now reduced the return line to close to water line to stop the auto siphon and have also drilled holes which should act as siphon stop :)

My recent new addition being Powder Blue Tang been in tank for around 4 weeks , smashing shrimp and Nori and has been constantly picking at rocks which i was super happy about then 4 days ago went completely missing.

I searched everywhere and couldnt find him , for 4 days didnt see at feeding time and i have a decent amount of rock , but i looked everywhere as i didnt want the body decompossing in the tank .... assume cleaner crew polished off the body :( .... yesterday i spot a monti frag that had literally fallen into the worst possible spot , i took apart an entire island to get to it.... and then on the last piece of rock under the island was the PBT ... obviously sick had one eye enlarged like double the size and clear ... not swimming with strength at all ... he was clearly hiding from all the other fish to recover from his injury.

He was so weak i was able to net him which clearly i should have no chance of doing in my tank ... ive moved him to my redsea 250 and he is swimming better and is picking at rock work.. will leave him in 250 under he is fat and eating shrimp again. I have 2 clowns in the 250 which is in my master so i dont really want to treat anything but i will if i have too :) will see if the infection heals over the coming days ...

Little update for anyone following :)

Thanks James404 yeah i originally wanted to go 3ft deep but in all seriousness its hard enough as it is to access rockwork etc ...
