Hi Genesis,

I purchased the Genesis/Storm PRO kit a few months ago for a future reef tank build. Would anyone be able to help me as to exactly what tubing I need to buy/how much? I am confused as far as the sizing goes and the length needed for the full system plus ROC accessory. Thank you for any assistance.

Tikosyn,

Thank you for your recent purchase. Since every setup is different, there's not one good answer for tubing length. It all depends on how you are set up. However, here's how I would go about finding approximate lengths:

For 1/2" ID tubing:
1. Measure the vertical distance from the bottom of the sump to the bottom of the Waste Water Metering Reservoir.
2. Measure the horizontal distance from the location in the sump where your waste water will be removed to the bottom of the Waste Water Metering Reservoir. Add this to the value above.
3. Measure the vertical distance from the bottom of the mixing bin to the bottom of the Replacement Water Metering Reservoir. Add this to the sum found above.
4. Measure the horizontal distance from the location in the mixing bin where your replacement water pump will be placed to the bottom of the Replacement Water Metering Reservoir. Add this to the sum found above.
5. Repeat steps 1 and 2 above, except measure from the location where the end of the waste water tubing will connect to a drain or empty into a waste collection bin. Add this to the sum found above.
6. Repeat steps 3 and 4 above, except measure from the location where the end of the replacement water tubing will dispense water in your sump. Add this to the sum found above.
7. Finally, find the vertical and horizontal distances the tubing will run (double the vertical distance) from your top off pump in your RO water bin to your sump, and add that to the sum found in step 6. This final sum is the approximate amount of 1/2" tubing you will need. This is probably a bit on the high side since you probably will run some of the tubing on a diagonal, but it gives you plenty to work with. You can of course adjust the length estimate according to how you actually intend to run your tubing.

To determine how much 5/8" ID tubing you will need:
1. Measure the vertical distance from the normal running water level in the sump to the bottom of the Waste Water Metering Reservoir.
2. Measure the horizontal distance from the center of your sump to the bottom of the Waste Water Metering Reservoir. Add this to the value above.
3. Measure the vertical distance from the water level of the mixing bin when it is full to the bottom of the Replacement Water Metering Reservoir. Add this to the sum found above.
4. Measure the horizontal distance from the center of the mixing bin to the bottom of the Replacement Water Metering Reservoir. Add this to the sum found above. This is the approximate amount of 5/8" ID tubing you will need. Again, this may be a bit more than needed, but it allows for some trimming to the proper lengths. Adjust the estimated lengths as you deem necessary.

The ROCv™ tubing length will simply be whatever is needed to go from your RO filter to your top off bin since this is a new setup. In an existing setup, you'll simply cut the tubing and insert the ROCv™ - no extra tubing to buy!

Hopefully this helps.
