This canister filter for my 12g?

Im considering getting this canister filter for my 12g. The tank has no sump, and unfortunately i dont have room for one. I dislike visible equipment in the tank, so I thought I might buy this, remove the filter media and add some seachem matrix media, but also put chaeto in it, and wrap it in led strips to grow the algae - like a reactor? That way Ill both have a little algae refugium, a heater (Its inside) and some extra flow and filtration..

What do you guys think?

Canister filters are a factory nitrate unless you clean it up every week

My its 20 gl and I do not need any sump just rum my skimmer and gfo reactor my parameter are ammonium 0, nitrite 0 nitrate 0. Phosphate .02ppm
