I am currently using IO regular. Is it worth upgrading to Reef Crystals or some other brand of salt to increase trace elements vital to corals? Thanks

No. Regular IO works great for A LOT of tanks. Through dosing, food, and fish pee/poop you should be adding back trace elements needed.

Made the switch from RC to IO and will never buy RC again. Basically they are the same salts with some "special" additives in RC to supposedly make it a reef salt, but my tank and many others run just fine on regular old IO.

Lots of Tanks of the Month have run on IO.

The stand out difference between IO and RC is that RC is higher in alk, ca, and mg. Their minor and trace element profiles are pretty much identical. Only reason to use RC is if you run a very high nutrient tank that can tolerate the super high alk
