I'm building my tank in a room that's carpeted. What do you use to keep water off the carpet? I was thinking of laying down a big plastic mat

What do you guys use to keep water off the carpet? I know it's going to happen sooner or later, just trying to keep my carpets dry

I just letter get wet and when im done, dry them if i had a spill. No different than if you have your carpets steamed clean being wet, well likely less so wet on a spill....

How/when are you planning on spilling it?

I have a steam-vac, to clean and dry up any spilled water. Other than that....I do have a plastic-backed mat I put down when doing major water work around the tank. But nothing permanent.

I use a rubber backed throw rug to minimize the problem on water change day. I also have a Hoover Steam Vac for those bigger spills.

Er, reef tank water is full of salt .... makes a big old mess when it dries.

Bunch of old towels ..... and a basement fish room well away from any carpets.

I made a tray that fit inside the stand so water spills and drips inside the stand don't even get to the stand, let alone the floor. I don't have to worry about the floor as our house is all ceramic tile. Good luck.

You can see the tray and drain in my build thread:

I use a painters drop cloth, and a shop-vac on standby.

I use a couple of these in front of the tank when I'm working or doing water changes.
