Thinking of getting one for my Fluval 5 gallon reef tank. I would like to just place it on top of the standard tank cover. Being only inches from the surface, it will get splashed on from time on the LED side. Is this light made to handle this?

The light does bot need to be to near to the water line , 6 or 8 inches from are ok

Kessil internals are quite water resistant. So, yes, splash resistant; not submersible though.
