Everything that i read says 250 is the size of the heater that is needed. But my question is if you run two heaters can you run two smaller heaters? Maybe run 2 - 200 size heaters. Trying to save to make room in the sump the 250 heater is much longer.

I think the 250 would be total watts so if you use 2 that would be 175 each. Also it depends on where you are and how cold it can get in the room with the tank. I use 2 50 watt heaters in my 42 gallon tank, but the temp on the room doesn't get much below 70 degrees. I have never had an issue keeping it above 76.8 which where the second heater kicks in.

Yes you can use 2 x 125W heaters..
Or 2 x 150W or 2 x 175W or 2 x 200W or whatever..

Its actually safer/better to use multiple heaters vs 1 larger one should a failure occur..

Not a bad idea to run them from an external controller too.. Heaters WILL fail.. Its just a matter of when..

I HIGHLY recommend Eheim Jager or Aqueon Pro heaters only..

I run Aqueon Pro on my 72...two of the smaller ones instead of one 250, just in case one fails "on".

I am sorry I got the addition wrong that would have been 2 125 watt heaters instead of 1 250 watt. Also adding some form of secondary control should be a must.

Yes it's fine to ruin two heaters and is a good idea
for that size tank. That way you have a backup in case
one fails on you.
