Better skimmer for a 100 gallon tank

So I plan on adding another skimmer to my tank and it has to be hob. I have narrowed it down to 2 different ones which include reef octopus 90 hob or the coralife 220 hob skimmer. I already have reef octopus 100 on the tank but I plan to get another soon I also plan on having a pretty high bio load so skimmer is important. Thanks

Well.. the RO 90 is basically a downgrade from what you already have.. neither are suitable for a heavily stocked 100G tank if you go by their own ratings..

So that leaves 1 of the choices we were given..

I suppose adding either would give you more skimmate. Looks like the coralife is rated higher, as mcgyvr alluded.

You may have to consider a sump if you want a high performance skimmer.

Yeah I am adding 2 thought about sump but seems too late for that now. So I guess the coralife is the way to go? That will also give me 3 times the tank. Thanks again

Yeah that is why I was hesitant to it and looking for other skimmers that would work. Just from some reviews I could tell that a lot of people complaining it didn't even work. I think for my tank the only skimmer that will work as a hob for my size tank and be effective is the reef octopus bh300 rated for 150 gallons and I already have a bh100 on there together I think these will do thanks again.

Although it would be pretty bulky, Jeff of Lifereef can make an HOB version of his 24" venturi skimmer, the HVS2-24. Its performance on your heavily stocked 100 gallon tank would blow away the options mentioned so far...

Quick question about hsvs2 is this size efficient plus the bh 100 I have now? And what does it mean between with pump and less pump? It is about a 50$ difference

The Lifereef alone will be fine for your tank. People have run the 24" model in a 150 with success. With pump means he will include a Mag 9.5 for an additional $50. I'd upgrade it to at least a mag 12. You can also order it without a pump and choose your own, like a Vectra M1, Jebao DCP 6000 or RO Varios-6. Realize though that these pumps will be inside if your display tank... not the prettiest look, but definitely effective. You can try to hide it behind the rocks or something. Also ask him if he can make it modular, so you can easily convert it back to an in sump version should you go that route later on.

Ok so I see the pumps now would the mag 9.5 work? The other pumps I looked at are around 200$ a little pricey. If not do you know anything else that will work for less? Thanks for all this help really appreciate it.

Ask Jeff to upgrade from the Mag 9.5 to the Mag 12. It'll be a few bucks more than the $50 he's charging for the 9.5. He's pretty much getting the Mags at wholesale and passing it through to you when you order a skimmer from him.
