View Full Version : Cant grow GSP???

09/24/2017, 03:56 PM
I picked up some super bright green gsp for my new tank yesterday and today it is not open and looks kind of brown. This happened with the last frag I bought.

I just did the hour long testing and Alk is 7.1, Mag 1300, Calcium 360. I am using aqua forest salt. What am I doing WRONG? :mixed:

What happened with the last frag?

Just give it some time. Very normal for GSP. Iíve seen it take a few days to open. [emoji1303]

Mine opened straight away. When was the last time you did a water change?

Hour long tests? I takes all of 5 minutes to run the big three. If I have to do PO4 and NO3, it takes about 10 minutes.

But at any rate, it's completely normal for GSP to stay closed for a few days when added to a new tank. As long as it's not withering away, just give it some time. eventually you'll wish you never bought it.

Itís beautiful. Take my advice and remove it and donít replace it. No xenia or Kenya tree either.

I do love me some xenia & kenya tree....which is lucky, cause if you have some, you will soon have...lots. And lots. And lots.

I have lots and lots and lots of all three. Itís fun to watch GSP overtake and grow over xenia and Kenya teee.

I know its not a popular coral but it's just super duper neon and I am keeping it on an isolated rock.

The last frag just like melted away after turning brown with no polyps showing (just like this one is doing.) I did a water change an before I added it and checked my parameters today and they are fine. Hopefully it opens up.

This is what it looks like now. I did not dip it or do anything to make it mad so I figured it would be open a few hours after I put it into the tank.

Your Alk should be 9.5 and your calcium should be 400+

Higher more light and flow will make it open.

Just trim the branches/plates before they drop or reach something else and you'll be fine. Give it a few days with good flow and it should come out.
