Hi,

I would like to set up a tank I have mainly to grow corals and maybe anemones.

The tank is:

24x18x12
19 Imperial Gall
22.5 US gal
85 ltr

I know what I am going to do for filtration and lighting, but I'm not sure about the following:

1-Should I have a substrate? If so what should I use and how deep?
2-Does it need live rock?
3-Would it be okay to just put the frags on the bottom or should I put in a plastic grid to raise them all up?

Thanks

The nems will appreciate substrate. You don't need anything too deep (<1").

You can start with either live rock or base (dry) rock. Either will be live after several months in the tank.

Typically folks place the corals on the live rock elevating them off the bottom. The nems will move to wherever they are comfortable.

You really don't need sand, going bare bottom will allow you to have higher water flow without blowing the sand around although I prefer the look of a sand bottom. If the tank's primary function is to grow Corals you may want to skip the anemones, which will kill any corals in their path when they walk around.

The plastic grate is typically for frag tanks (tanks that have nothing but frags in them)

I'm saying if you want more aesthetic appeal then I would go with just rock
