View Full Version : What skimmer for my budget?

Looking for a skimmer that will handle a heavily stocked 150g tank. Setting the budget at $500. As of right now I'm really leaning towards the Deltec sc1455 but I'm not committed to anything. I'll be getting either the Red Sea 625xxl or the peninsula 650 depending on the layout of the house I purchase, but for now the skimmer will be going into a heavily stocked 120g sps tank.

I would steer away from Deltec IMO. Their customer service is nonexistent from what I keep hearing.

At that price point I would look into Reef Octopus (regal 200int maybe used?) Or maybe Vertex.

I'd be purchasing through marine depot which usually stands behind what they sell pretty well. I've owned the 200int before and honestly was not impressed.

Ok, just something to consider. A year or two from now if you need a replacement part.

Can you fit a LifeReef in there? If you can, they should be on your list.

I don't believe so. I'll have to look at the specs.

I've had great success with my Aquamaxx Co3 from Marinedepot. The CO2 is well under your budget.

Chinese branding but have had amazing experience with these skimmers. The marine sources monster DC range.

I second lifereef. Their footprints are fairly flexible, as you can run the pump in a completely separate chamber if you need. My lifereef wouldn’t fit in mg skimmer chamber with the pump so I just run the pump in the return chamber
