What is a nice looking black background material to affix to back of the tank?

Most of the ones on Amazon have bad reviews and expensive

I have used poster board a ton of times. If it gets wet or starts looking bad just invest another dollar for a new one. Get tired of black try blue which is what I actually liked the most.

+1 paint works best I prefer a blue color black makes the tank look too dark imo

PetSmart and PetCo sell black backgrounds among others. They are flimsy and easy to use. I've used them on my fresh water tanks before.

easy enough to razor blade off should you ever want to change it.. (assuming glass tank)

Used this many times. Very easy to remove, it just peels off in one sheet once you lift a corner. You can find it at the big box stores. Comes in both spray and brush on.
IMO better than regular paint and very durable. People use it to customize their car grills, chrome wheel, ect.

I used paint. Took a few coats but love how it turned out.

the darkest window tint you can buy - it's not quite 100% - but it's close enough for me, clean and easy to apply.

Dark window tint here as well. Also comes off very easy should you need to remove it.

Plastidip! It come in a can like spray paint. It is easy to spray on and after dry, it can be peeled right off. Cheap and easy

I use plastic vinyl that adheres to the glass. I like paint but the vinyl is easier than painting and easily changed from black to blue or something else. If I did it again, I might try the static-cling vinyl.

1+ on plastidip. So easy to spray on and remove!
