I would run one if only to help oxygenate. They can be messy eaters though.

Sent from my iPhone using TapatalkThank you. Can you give me give me advice as to salinity, temperature and any and all tank parameters and equipment. I realize it's a lot to ask but I'm a total newbie and really would like to do this the right way. I am fascinated by these creatures and would like to provide it with a good home. All advice is greatly appreciated!!!

If you know what species you’re getting or want info on, this is the best place to look :)

For temp and salinity just go for normal reef params, sg 1.026 temp of around 78

If youíre new to saltwater donít get a peacock right away. They are deep water species, a bit fragile. Some of the smaller smashers are pretty damn resilient though.

If you donít have rock yet look into http://tbsaltwater.com/ they are known for small green smashers.

I recommend a protein skimmer for overall aquarium health since it is a more effective tank cleaning system than a HOB filter or refugium. If possible, I would run both a protein skimmer and grow macroalgae in either a HOB refugium or in a sump. That and small (5%) water changes every 2 weeks is what always worked for me.
