Hi Everyone!

I'm new to reef tanks but I've been wanting to start a tank for years. Right now I'm still planning out the logistics of starting a tank and likely won't start up until another couple of years. I'm having confusion deciding what tank size I should go with. My planned stocking list would ideally include:

1 Blue Dot Jawfish
1 Royal Gramma
2 Ocellaris Clownfish
1 Multicolor Angelfish
1 Blue-Green Chromis
1 Green Clown Goby
1 Tail Spot Blenny

This list includes some of my favorite fish and I think includes a good variety in colors and behaviors. I was planning on doing a 40 breeder since I can get them cheaply during the dollar per gallon sales, but I worry this might be overstocking. Eventually, I would like to make this a reef tank with mostly soft corals and a couple euphyllias. Please let me know what you think, guys!

Something in the 55-75 gallon range, I'm.

The dwarf angel, and also that many fish, bumps you out of the 40 breeder range.

Go as big as you can fit/afford, you won't regret it. Bigger tanks are actually more stable and easier to care for. Down side is the equipment is all more expensive.

But a 75 g would be plenty for that list.

I would suggest a 50g or above. Like Crawlerman said, the 75g is actually a perfect size. You would be able to add more with that size tank as well. I love the dimensions of the 75g.

75 gallons minimum. The Angel is the biggest concern as far as tank size goes. Dwarf Angels will get very aggressive if kept in a tank under 70 gallons, and even in a 120 they can become problematic as they mature. If you have the space I would go with a 120.

I'd vote 65 or 75 gallon. Great sized tanks for a starter, and can fit all those fish.

Wow, thanks everyone for the replies! I think I'll definitely aim for 75 gallons. I'd like to stay under 100 gallons and am considering a 90, but I'm pretty short and I think I prefer the dimensions of the 75. Thoughts?

Haha yeah, I've wanted one for years but I'm still in school so I probably won't be able to start yet for quite a while. But I'm just the type of person who likes to plan ahead.

A 90 gallon would be good for the livestock you listed.
I have one with 10 fish in it (with the largest being a 3 1/2 - 4" Pakistani Butterfly) with no issues.
Haven't added ANY fish in a while and I don't intend to. They are all doing great.
