My pump has died for my sm203. I literally have to jump start it to get it going. I want to replace it with an alternative. Any recommendations?
OEM is a vsc5000-DC pump

Thanks. I see them on amazon as return pump. Can the needle wheel just be swapped?

Dcs5000 is NOT the same. I ordered and the case is a completely different and cannot be retrofited. The input and outputs is much larger. I ordered the dcp5000 which is the 2017 model and I was able to modify to make it work. I needed to dremel holes on the base of the mount. Also the old volute must be used and with a minor mod i was able to use it. Lastly the needlewheel must be used with the new propeller shaft.
The new pump is cheaper and less than half what BRS is asking for a direct replacement.
I just ran into your same problem. Wondering how it worked out for you since you installed / modified. Curious as to the mod you had to do to the volute. Pretty ticked off that skimz only discontinued the sv223 / vsc5000. Skimz customer service is lacking. Asked for a simple question on if there was a replacement or their new qps pumps were compatible and they wanted me to give them all of my paypal info, id, shipping info, and blood type, then they would give a price. Not sure where the simple question of yes or no went. Lol
Thanks and happy reefing!

Everything is working great and it’s even quieter than before. I bought an extra pump as a spare since it worked out so well. Figured I could use it as an emergency return pump if the vectors fails.
What did you have to mod on this pump besides the locking tabs? Did you just use the impeller on the new shaft?

To be honest I do not remember. I believe I did have to move the needle wheel.
