Or is it like evaporation with only H2o removed and no salt?

Just guessing, I would say it may be salty .. but I sure as h3ll ain't tasting it to find out.

It does take out a small amount of salt. Depending on tank size I would check salinity monthly and adjust if needed.

Hey ..thanks for the link! Found the answer in the article: "These water soluble species consist of 3.45 wt % sodium.."

3% - 4% salt.

There was also a surprising (to me) amount of calcium removed.
