Hi all,

Just got my tank up and running today, its a 37G with a 10G sump. I have a Bubble Magus Curve 5 Skimmer, plugged it in and it is not making any sort of bubbles or vortex action, all it is doing is is raising the water in the skimmer neck when i adjust the valve. Is there something wrong with my skimmer? Thanks.

It can take a skimmer a few days or even longer to break in. If it's still not working a week from now, post again.

sounds like something is wrong..it should be making bubbles ..you should see some kind of action...maybe post a pic of your skimmer...

Is the airline for the venturi above water?

Yes the airline tubing/silencer is above the water. No bubbles are being made at allhttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171218/61a849f0c4b22139c34a232a3737b14c.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171218/43a8125307b96c4970ea48bcc076af1c.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171218/d4e27febff7e792937dff7bc244b361a.jpg

Yeah just added it a few hours ago. Salinity is about 1.025. I just started the tank up about 6 hours ago

Does the red knot on top of the silencer twist?

It pops off so you can clean it. This is quite strange... I followed the assembly videos on youtube and did everything exactly. Another thing i noticed is i cannot feel the skimmer sucking in air out of the silencer. Isnt it supposed to suck air out of the silencer?

Yes it should suck air in through the silencer. Try taking the silencer off to see if something is plugged

It's clearly not working as it should. Strange, there have been a few threads started on this skimmer. weird performance issues. Not pulling any air is IMO the weirdest yet.

Check the venturi - see that the air intake isn't pressed in to far. This is only a guess on my part. It should pull some air.

I'd say there's something plugging up the air intake or there's a hole below the water level that's letting in water rather than air?

First thing is the pump working?Take the silencer off and blow thru the tube to see if it's clear.

I got it working. Dont even know what was wrong with it. I just took apart the air intake and tube and it works. Now i have a new issue. When I start it up, it overflows the entire cup within a about 30 seconds even though i have it at 8' water line and have the dial at Max. Not sure how to really proceed in breaking this thing in if its just going to overflow?

thats great ..now you should be able to turn it down now...the handle with the numbers on it...turn it down to lowest number ..my does same thing when i go past 3...

I don't have that particular skimmer, I have a Vertex Omega and according to the instructions, it says to run it without the collection cup and let it overflow for like 24 hours. Mine took about a month before it stopped overflowing the skimmer cup. I even had to raise it up an inch even tho it was at the recommended level.

Open the exit valve all the way.You may have to raise the skimmer up

The valve is on Max, interestingly enough the controls on this skimmer are reversed compared to other skimmers for whatever weird reason. Still is overflowing no matter where the turn the valve to.
