Unhappy Zoas?

Hello guys,

I've had this zoas frag for a few weeks now. I I ended up placing at the top of my rocks to get it the most possible light but it doesn't seem happy. Many polyps won't open all the time or open just partially. In the second pic you can see the position in the tank.
Any ideas/recommendations?

they could be adjusting to the more intense lighting, you could try moving them back to where they were happy and see if they look better?

I’m having the same issues with all of my zoas. I’ve moved them everywhere and nothing helps. I’ve read a lot and have been told by a few people that once they started dosing iodide there zoas opened back up and looked better then before. I just started dosing iodide yesterday so I’ll see how it goes.

Be careful if the iodine you are using came with a glass dropper for dosing. I've had the rubber bulb on the end crack, which ended up letting all of the iodine in the dropper fall out.

I’ve read a lot and have been told by a few people that once they started dosing iodide there zoas opened back up and looked better then before. I just started dosing iodide yesterday so I’ll see how it goes.

what are you iodide levels? how much are you dosing?

How fast did you acclimate them to the lighting? Most don't need a lot, sticking them right to the top probably made them unhappy.

I would try moving them lower in the tank before you start dabbling with iodide

Thanks! Moved them to a partially shaded area yesterday. Let's see how it does in the next few days.
