I was given a light with 4, T5 lights to hold me over until my new lights arrive but my friend said that 2 tubes don't work. So I took a look and bank 2 and 4 work but 1 and 3 do not. After looking at the guts, I'm thinking maybe one of the ballasts is shot (it has 2 ballasts side by side). From what I can see, wiring from one ballast feeds banks 2 and 4 and the other goes to 1 and 3.

Am I on the right track with this? Wondering if I can just buy a new ballast and have a little back up lighting.

Sure. You can get either a 4 blub or 2 bulb ballast. This thread may help with some of the wiring. Although simple, you can see the ballast I had initially had a terrible wiring diagram on it.

buy the exact ballast (or a suitable comparable replacement) and rewire it exactly like it was.. Thats the easiest/simple solution
