What's the ideal Tank temperature for a FOWLR tank with clownfish, damsels, hermit crabs, and a tang? Most of the fish I look at online say ideal temperature range 72 to 78 degrees. I'd like to be as high as possible on the temp, because I don't plan on having a chiller and I live in Texas, so in the summer my central AC will basically be controlling the temp in the summer. Historically I put the AC on 80 when I leave the house but I'm thinking maybe 78 will be necessary?

Thanks in advance.

78º is what I've always kept my reef tanks at.

Suggest you install a fan array---look up aquarium fan. Put it on your sump or your tank, and you can do a lot to control the temperature.

Im in Texas also. I leave my temp at 78 when gone. I have a chiller, but it rarely ever comes on. With DC pumps and Led lights the need for a chiller is greatly reduced. I think fans would be enough.

My house has had AC issues a few times over the years. Thats the main reason I have a chiller. I look at it as insurance.

Something to think about with tank temp...

In the winter I keep my tank at 80deg. This buys me some "time" if we have a power failure.

in the summer I keep it at 78.

As long as my tank stays between 76-84 nobody seems to complain.

75-77 degrees, chiller set to come on at 79 degrees, my snails prefer the cooler temp.
