View Full Version : Where would you put this Trachy?

Just picked up a gorgeous trachy today (can be seen on the right island in this pic) and am struggling with finding the proper place to stick it.

From my understanding, these corals do best when on the sand bed and can be easily cut by abrasion against rock.

I won't be able to place mine on the sand bed due to my 3" fighting conch, who would inadvertently bury/ crush it. Has anyone had success keeping these on rock work?

I was thinking of moving it to the right most portion of the left rock island where it would be partially on the sand. If it were glued in place it could fit there well and be at least somewhat protected from Dave (the conch)

Let me know what you guys think.

It looks good where it's at now IMO. You might want to use a little super glue gel to keep it in place though.

You could always stick the conch in the sump so you can put it on the sand bed.

Assuming that the flow in that location isn't too high, I agree that it looks good where it's at. Epoxy would also keep it in place.

There’s no issue with rubbing against the rock there? There’s not much flow in that area but I heard just resting on rock can be detrimental...

I have had mine on the sand and parched on a rock near the sand. It seems to do well in either place. I have a conch as well, he has never bothered it though, at least I don’t think so.

As long as the rock isn't sharp, and the tissue isn't violently bouncing on it, it should be fine. If it's fully open, that means that the location is fine.

Looking at your photo again, you can put it on the sand, in one of the two little cove areas on the left side of the tank. These areas are to the left and right of the little green coral. I highly doubt that the fighting conch will venture into those areas if the trachy is there.

I have my trachy on the sand. I have a few fighting conchs. They go right up to him, but they dont seem to mess with at all.

Have one on the rock, been there for 16 months, fully open....no problem..

Glad to hear. Im going to check it when I get home and if the conch hasn’t touched it I think it’ll stay on the sand bed. If he had messed with it, I’ll move it back into the rock and glue it. Thanks.
