Hello! Are there any eels or eel-like fish that can thrive in a 30 gallon? (Not the golden dwarf moray 'cause it costs too much:spin2::spin2::spin2:) Any suggestions?

I just looked them up... don't they grow too big for my 30 gallon?

Actually an engineer goby would be really cool but they're too big for a 30 gallon right?

30G is pushing it. They grow to about 10". Need live rocks so they can build a maze under the rocks.

I have plenty of live rocks, but yeah, 30 gallons is too small. Maybe I'll upgrade sometime. Any others?

Yellow faced pikeblenny. They have them at KPAquatics, although you may need to wait for weather warm enough for them to collect.

How do you care for pipefish? The bluestripe pipefish looks pretty cool!

They'll need 2-3 small feedings/day.
Pipefish aren't the easiest to care for. They do best in pairs and often refuse to eat the food we give them. Their life span is about 2-4 years when proper care is provided.
If you get them, be sure to quarantine because I have had and read about many cases of them coming into wholesalers with internal parasites.

Will they eat frozen brine shrimp?

You can train then to eat frozen, but don't make brine their main food source. Mysis is much healthier for them.

Ok I think I might buy one or two Bluestripe pipefish. Any care tips?

Also how do I train them to eat frozen food?

Brine shrimp nauplii are healthy and if was was getting a pipefish I would plan on hatching brine for it's entire life. If you get it to eat frozen, great. The flat brine shrimp hatcheries that look kind of like a frisbee are very easy for small amounts.

I have a pair of blue stripe pipefish in my tank. They aren't too difficult if you have the right setup (not to many aggressive eaters who will outcompete for food). They're usually considered the "easiest" of all the pipefish to convert to frozen. I feed mine nutramar ova and sometimes they'll go for smaller pieces of mysis. Make sure you have copepods and other microfauna though, to ensure they can eat throughout the day when you can't feed. I'll post a video of them eating if I can.

I’ve never seen my pipefish pair eat anything I feed. I’ve had them for 8 months and they are doing great — so apparently they get plenty of pods etc. from all the rock in my 230 gal.

My LFS is ordering some bluestripe pipefish for me and they should arrive in one or two weeks.
