Heater malfunction down to 62 am I good?

My cats keep getting behind my tank and unplugging my heater. I noticed my coral lps not opening like they usually do. I did a water change but just never looked at the water temp. When I was re-organizing my regugium today I noticed the water temp was super low. Even my fish were just barely active. Noticed my plug and temp was 62 degrees. Am I ok. It’s up to 70 now and climbing but I’m worried.

Shouldn’t kill anything. Since in nature the water goes down in temp at night.

Good news, water is back up to 78 and life goes on. Things are taking sweet time to open back up,like they were but I see no damage. Coral be like: cccc cold in year.

I've lost power a few times recently and had a 3 day stretch with power out that the tank sat around 60, things are unhappy for a few days, but they com eback.

you should be fine. that's not all that terrible. the key is the speed with which temperature changes happen. if they plummet quickly, that's a lot more detrimental than a slow cool down.

here's a picture to help ease your mind. this is the temp log on my tank from my apex when my heaters failed. i was at work, so it was this way for probably 12 - 18 hours before i was able to get home and get a new heater in the sump. i didn't have any issues.

Cold seldom kills living creatures. On the other hand, over the last 40 years or so, I've lost more fish to heaters sticking in the "on" position (high temps) than every other problem combined (!).

I've spoken to more than one old timer with the same story.
