I have been considering adding a snowflake moray eel to my 72 gallon fish-only tank that currently only houses a spotcinctus clown and domino damsel. I’ve been soaking up all the info I can, and it seems they have a reputation for 1) escaping/jumping out of the tank, 2) toppling rock structures and 3) eating small fish. However, when I’ve read people’s personal experience rather than just general information, many people claim they’ve had no problems with their snowflakes doing any of these things.

My tank is partially open on top, and it’s not really possible to cover it completely. If water conditions are ideal and it has plenty of hiding places, is it too risky, as far as escaping? I’d like to hear people’s experiences with this awesome fish. As far as eating smaller fish, I’m not really worried. The escaping and knocking over all the live rock and potentially ending up with over 70 gallons of water on my floor are far more concerning.

Any input is appreciated.

Mine absolutely loves the caves I made him. I did cover the top before I purchased him, so I can't say if it likes to escape or not. Also, it ate a small damsel, but left the clown fish, cleaner shrimp, and small bi color angel alone.

It's been in my tank almost a year. 70 gallons, and it's about 14 inhes long, approximately 3/4 inch diameter.

I misspelled "inches."
