I wonder what this is?

Can anyone please identify the green things growing on the base of this soft coral? They almost seem to be clams or oyster shells forming.

Looks like some kind of algae? Are the hard or flexible?

I've not actually touched them, but since they don't move w/the water currents I'm presuming that they are rigid (if not hard).

That is not a soft coral, it is stony coral (torch coral). Green thing is some type of green algae growing on the exposed skeleton.
