Hi all, got a 75 gallon used and sold tank and random things however kept stand and canopy. Further inspection I noticed what appears to be a crack or maybe bad manufacturing.

Tank was setup when I bought for $65 (leaving hobby due to baby)and stand is level however 1 board on back seems chewed up. Don’t really want to buy a new stand at $285 and idk if I want to build, just trying to get opinions. Hard to get a good pic:

That looks like how the wood came in the picture. I would not worry about it.
However if you want to be safe, cut a piece of two by four and attach it in a structural way just to play it safe.

You need a new stand. Ask your LFS for price quote and manufacturers.

is good enough.

Building it is really easy if you can put a few hrs into it and have tools:

i built one using that template--very sturdy, much more than anything you could buy.

I’m thinking 65 gallon would be sweet as I like the 40B footprint. [emoji1591]

I built canopies a few times, my concern is building it square and level [emoji23]

That looks like there is a knot in the wood near the edge. No big deal. You could easily reinforce that stand with 2x4s, which is something I did on one of those I had a 150g on for peace of mind. It a little scary how those stands are put together but they seem to hold up fine. I've had a few over the years.

If I'm seeing the pics correctly though, there is paint inside the split. Unless the stand has been repainted, that would indicate that split has been there since it was manufactured.

You do NOT need a new stand. Frankly it just looks like grain split to me. That small piece will have absolutely no effect on the structural integrity of the stand. If it worries you jus sister the board from the back.

Looks like a natural split in wood.
Those stands are so minimal though, would not hurt to sister 1x to be sure, especially being in bay area/quakeville!

Agreed! Thanks all, wish I could keep my stand now and run a 65 but it’s a solid top so no room for overflow [emoji22]
