View Full Version : Pressure washer for my reef tank
I'm curious if anyone has ever tried finding or DIY'ing a very small volume but high pressure washer to clean the rocks in their tanks. Think waterpic. I've though of modifying a Waterpic. Imagine having a two foot tube with a high pressure jet on the end that you surgically clean the rocks, avoiding your corals.
Thoughts?

What you need to do is to get a maxi jet 1200 and some how hook 1/4 in RO hosing to the pump.
Attach the RO hosing to some clear plastic tubing. 1/4 in plastic tube.
Toss the pump in your display tank, then point the tube towards your rock.
There you go..... Diy pressure washer.

I’m not sure a MJ would have enough pressure to really deep clean the rocks once you reduce it down enough. I may have to experiment!

Try it out.
I have mine on 1/2 in and it blows all the junk away

I use Maxi jet 1200's as my wave makers, controlled by my antique basic stamp microcontroller. I'm looking for a much smaller, higher pressure (think water jet cutting) spray nozzle, like a newer high pressure power washer. There fore the water pic reference....

Attach the RO hosing to a glass pippette tip. Its pushing a large amount of water through the tiny azz hole. Are you trying to cut rock?

Try a bigger pump. Red dragon or something
