My spouse and I want to add more dimension and layers to our reef tank. We have seen some things available for purchase through places like http://westmariculture.com but wanted to try making our own to fit better in our tank not to mention tier things how we need for our corals.

What materials should we use to make a tiered reefscape structure for our tank and how do we go about it? Any info that could be shared would be greatly appreciated.

Garf has this covered. PVC and acrylic rod are nice

Just use some 1/2 inch acrylic rod then drill the rock and set it how you want it. Get some reef safe epoxy and BRS sells some E-Marco aquascape mortar.

Thank you for the responses and all the input. The wife and I will read that over and start giving it a shot.

i recently used 3/4" PVC to build a framework to pile rocks on. i also integrated a closed loop system in to it, to try to help clear out build up under the rock pile.

then i stacked rocks on top it. it was much easier to get height and overhangs this way, without being fully reliant on interlocking or gluing rocks together.
