Hey all,

I have a drilled tank I never got around to using. The inside diameter of the hole is 2.30". I looked on bulk reef supply and the bulkhead varies depending on size and I am in the range for 1 1/4" or 1 1/2". Which would you guys recommend? I also saw there are 2 different types and one better than the other? I feel like a noob all over again trying to get this tank going. Thanks for reading!

The 40s vs 80s have different size pvc that come out. The 80s are supposed to be better quality, but people have used 40s for years....

Recommend 1 1/2 ABS, slip-slip. Larger working diameter. Schedule 40 pvc and fittings are plenty strong and eaiser to find locally, than schedule 80.

I like using thread x thread as you can take them apart if you need to.

I have reused some of my bulkheads multiple times over the years. Several are more than 25 years old. If they had been slip/slip, they'd have been in the trash several upgrades ago.

IMHO, sch40 or ABS is fine. Choose the biggest ones that will fit in your holes.

What size tank is it? If it's large enough, you may even consider redrilling for even larger sizes.

Thanks everyone for the replies.

This is going in a 20L, probably overkill but it's drilled!

Schedule 40 are black colored, Schedule 80s are grey....if that matters to you
