View Full Version : Sea urchin waste

I recently added a pincushion urchin (2 months).
It’s been a character... I have had to glue down all my frags. It still sometimes agitates corals. But they always open right back up.
So for now I’m keeping it.

My question was about its waste. I noticed it dropping little flake like pellets right onto my hammer coral.
Is that the waste (poop) or is it just like processed rock/sand?

My urchin took a couple days to start moving when I first got it. It lost maybe 2-3 spikes.
Then about a month later I added too much salt by accident and almost killed the urchin. It lost a good 20-30 spikes and didn’t move for a few days. I fixed the salinity issue as soon as I noticed it. Maybe was this way for a couple hours.

Now about 45 days later the urchin has grew back all its spines and looks healthier then ever.
I’m just curious about it’s waste...

How do you think sand is made? It's all urchin poop. :p

Not true. Plenty is from parrot fish poop as well. Rolling in the surf on the beach seems a little less appealing now doesn't it?

Me too. Poop is always funny...unless it's on you.
