How important is proper lighting for a fish only QT? I've got a 20 g long and a led left over from a 5 gal tank that I was thinking about using.

Fish don't really care how much light you have for them. An inexpensive light will work just fine. It is more important that there be a light and dark period.

Wouldn't worry about it too much at all. I would keep light low and have a normal daytime/nighttime schedule. Lower light may reduce fish stress and may prevent certain potentially light sensitive medications from degrading.

There are inexpensive dimmable LED lights on amazon also.
