Hi
just cleaning out a pice of recent rock i had from a LFS to try to remove pest anemone and i notice a section of the rock has a glistening shiny black colour with what look likes hairs .

it doesnt look inviting so i thought i would check if this is something i ought to remove

Thanks

Some sort of cucumber?
Does it move at all?

This is just a wild guess because it's hard to tell from your picture but if it's not a cucumber some kind of black sponge along with some kind of tiny feather duster.

Hi - nothing moving its hard, solid on the rock itself with perhaps a little bit of softness at the very edges, its looks like someone painted the rock and stuck hairs to it. i have some tiny feather dusters in.my other nano but this didn't automatically make me think the same.

I would suggest you put the live rock in a higher salinity (1.030+) to chase pests out. Also, just spray a little hydrogen peroxide on anything that looks "evil". Doing these things should still keep the beneficial bacteria alive deep inside the rock.
