View Full Version : Has my clam put on a new layer of shell?

I have just noticed that one of my clams has a new white rim , is this an addition to his shell?Thanks

That is the new shell growth.. Means you are doing something right:D .. The clam needs to grow the shell, in order for the organs to fit and logically the clam to grow! So it grows outward.. Over time, your clam formation now will only be the little tip of the bottom of the clam when it is 10"+!!

Hey great, Thanks Lebowski, these are my first clams and wasnt sure what it was. He is in my little nano tank and I do a 1 gallon water change every week to keep the calcium levels up so I dont have to add additives. They both seem to be doing great. Take a look at my other thread about the other one standing on his foot up off the rock, so cute, here is the thread. Thanks for the reply

Morning all, I have a corallife on the tank, it has 4 tubes, total of 96watts . and 2 actinic, I have had the one that has put on a new layer of shell for about 3 months is all, it is only about 4 inches long. I noticed yesterday that my other clam is also putting on a new layer of shell, really cool

That squamosa you have is unique! I love the position it's standing in! Very interesting, good luck with them all Finding Nemo!
